Recently, it was reported that  <a href=\"https:\/\/info.bankofamerica.com\/homebuyers-report\/\">24%<\/a>  of renters believe they need a 780-800 credit score to be considered for a mortgage. The reality is they are misinformed!<\/p>\n<p>Only 25% of the Americans have a FICO\u00ae Score between 740 and 800. Here is the breakdown according to  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.experian.com\/blogs\/ask-experian\/what-is-a-bad-credit-score\/\">Experian<\/a> :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\t16% Very Poor (300-579)\n<\/li>\n<li>\t18% Fair (580-669)\n<\/li>\n<li>\t21% Good (670-739)\n<\/li>\n<li>\t25% Very Good (740-799)\n<\/li>\n<li>\t20% Exceptional (800-850)\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Randy Hopper, <i>Senior Vice President<\/i> of <i>Mortgage Lending<\/i> for <i>Navy Federal Credit Union<\/i>  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bankrate.com\/finance\/credit\/low-credit-score-borrowers-get-mortgage.aspx?utm_source=twitter&#038;utm_medium=organic_social\">said<\/a> ,<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cJust because you have a low credit score doesn\u2019t mean you can\u2019t purchase a home. There are a lot of options out there for consumers with low FICO\u00ae scores.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>There are many programs available with low or no credit score requirement. The <i>Federal Housing Administration<\/i>(FHA) now requires a minimum FICO\u00ae score of  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fha.com\/fha_credit_requirements\">580<\/a>  if you want to qualify for the low down payment advantage. The <i>US Department of Agriculture<\/i>(USDA) does not set a minimum credit score requirement, but most lenders require a score of at least  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usdaloans.com\/articles\/income-and-credit\/\">640<\/a> . <i>Veterans Affairs<\/i> (VA) loans have  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vahomeloancenters.org\/va-loan-credit-score\/\">no credit score<\/a>  requirement.<\/p>\n<p>As you can see, none of them are above 700! It is true that the average FICO\u00ae score for all closed loans in January was 726, but there are plenty of people taking advantage of the low credit score requirements. <\/p>\n<p>Here is the average FICO\u00ae Score of <i>closed FHA Loans<\/i> since April 2012 according to * :* <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elliemae.com\/mortgage-data\/origination-insight-reports\">Ellie Mae<\/a> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/skyrisere.com\/listings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/DA3D9326-F65A-427A-934D-29D4D142826D.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"2800\"  src=\"http:\/\/skyrisere.com\/listings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/DA3D9326-F65A-427A-934D-29D4D142826D-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"Average FHA FICO\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-2800 img-responsive\" srcset=\"https:\/\/skyrisere.com\/listings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/DA3D9326-F65A-427A-934D-29D4D142826D-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/skyrisere.com\/listings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/DA3D9326-F65A-427A-934D-29D4D142826D-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/skyrisere.com\/listings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/DA3D9326-F65A-427A-934D-29D4D142826D-768x576.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/skyrisere.com\/listings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/DA3D9326-F65A-427A-934D-29D4D142826D.jpeg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As you can see, that number has been dropping for the last seven years. As a matter of fact, the average FHA Purchase FICO\u00ae Score reported in January 2019 was 675!<\/p>\n<p>One of the challenges is that Americans are unsure about their credit score.
